Our client in East London is seeking an experienced Accountant with extensive Auditor-General (AG) experience to join their finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and accounting standards, supporting annual audits and strengthening financial controls

- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, legislation and internal financial policies.
- Prepare Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
- Manage the annual Auditor-General audit process.
- Liaise directly with Auditor-General representatives during audits.
- Prepare audit files and supporting documentation.
- Respond to AG audit queries within required timeframes.
- Implement corrective actions arising from audit findings.
- Ensure compliance with PFMA, MFMA, Treasury Regulations and other relevant legislation.
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Maintain fixed asset registers.
- Monitor budgets and expenditure.
- Assist with financial reporting to management.
- Identify and strengthen internal financial controls.
- Assist with risk management and compliance initiatives.
- Prepare journals and oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assist with cash flow management and financial planning.
- Support external and internal audit processes.
- Provide guidance to junior finance staff where required.
- BCom Degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
- Completed SAICA articles will be advantageous.
- Minimum 5 years' accounting experience.
- Proven experience working in an environment audited by the Auditor-General South Africa (AGSA) is essential.
- Thorough knowledge of GRAP (Generally Recognised Accounting Practice). (If the client is in the public sector.)
- Strong knowledge of IFRS would be advantageous where applicable.
- Extensive experience preparing Annual Financial Statements.
- Experience dealing directly with AGSA audit processes, audit queries and audit findings.
- Strong knowledge of PFMA and/or MFMA (depending on the organisation).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience using financial systems such as SAP, CaseWare, Pastel, Sage, Oracle or similar ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
