Our client is seeking an experienced Freight and Export Manager to oversee export operations, ocean freight, customs clearance and transport logistics. The successful candidate will ensure shipments are managed efficiently, cost-effectively and in line with customer requirements, contractual commitments and international regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end booking, transportation and ocean freight arrangements, with exports serving as the primary mode of shipment.
  • Coordinate and oversee export customs processes and all required documentation through to the CIF stage.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all applicable local and international regulations, procedures and protocols governing the transportation of citrus products.
  • Take responsibility for departmental budgets, expenditure control and overall cost management.
  • Effectively administer shipping line allocations to ensure they remain aligned with agreed contractual volumes and commitments.
  • Evaluate and utilise appropriate freight solutions and alternatives to ensure customer delivery requirements and expected arrival dates are consistently achieved.

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with the confidence to engage effectively with customers, clients and service providers.
  • Comprehensive understanding of ocean freight operations and processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational capabilities, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise and manage people effectively.
  • Strong commercial negotiation and relationship-management skills.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of financial systems and processes.

Minimum Requirements

  • 7–10 years of relevant experience within the shipping, freight forwarding or international logistics industry.
  • A relevant qualification in International Trade, Clearing and Forwarding, Shipping, or a related field.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required and perform effectively under strict deadlines and time-sensitive conditions.
  • Previous experience in transport logistics will be considered an advantage.
  • Exposure to or experience in freight forwarding sales will be an added advantage.
