- Roll plates, bend material, and operate guillotines
- Tack work to required code specifications
- Fabricate items from specified drawings
- Operate a heavy crane
- Use manual and automated flame cutting machines
- Follow quality control procedures
- Ensure work is completed within allotted timeframes
- 2-5 years of heavy engineering experience
- Proficient in using benders (small, medium, and large), croppers, punches, shears, and all types of rollers
- Skilled in cutting materials using cutting torches, heating torches, and plasma cutters
- Experienced in operating guillotines (small, medium, and large)
- Capable of boiler making, structural work, and general manufacturing
- Able to strip, repair, renew, and replace components on diesel and electrical locomotives, as well as wagons
- Skilled in pipe fabrication and fitting
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Relevant trade test certificate
