Maintenance Fitter – Cold Storage / Food Manufacturing

Our client is urgently looking for the expertise of a Maintenance Fitter to join their team. Ideally a candidate with experience in Food Manufacturing or Cold Store Industry.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

• Meet with maintenance foreman and production staff to discuss maintenance/engineering breakdowns in the plant.
• Record all work required and completed on the Preventative Maintenance platform.
• Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassemble equipment.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
• Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
• Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments.
• Assemble, install and/or repair pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
• Health and safety.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogues, as necessary.
• Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions.
• Record maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
• Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments
• Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
• Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
• Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
• Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
• Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine the need for adjustments or repairs.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• N3 or Grade 12
• Trade tested
• 3 – 5 years’ experience in Food Manufacturing or Cold Store Industry
• Pneumatics and hydraulics experience
• Own transport
• Good communication skills
• Computer literate
• Residing in a 25 km radius due to breakdowns and standby.
