Our client is urgently looking for the expertise of a Safety, Health and Environmental Office to join their team. This position is a National Role and will involve traveling.

To champion and lead safety, health and environmental compliance nationally and mitigate risk to the business.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  1. Adherence to Legal Compliance
  • Set up and maintain a SHE system ensuring legal compliance.
  • Alignment of the SHE system to best practices and international standards.
  • Facilitation of all certifications and accreditations as required by the business.
  • Develop, implement and review SHE policies and procedures in line with legislation and business objectives.
  • Adherence to the governing requirements stipulated in the SHE policy.
  • To establish a SHE Committee and ensure consistency and procedural conformance as prescribed by the governing acts.
  • To ensure all issues pertaining to SHE is addressed appropriately to meet compliance and conformance.
  • Ensure all gap analysis, risk assessments, hazard identification, hygiene surveys, emission monitoring, environmental testing and registrations are conducted regularly.
  • Maintain and apply best practice to housekeeping standards to mitigate and eliminate incidents.
  • Ensure all legal appointments are signed and updated.
  • Ensure all medical surveillance is conducted as stipulated by the governing acts.
  • Manage the protocols , legal reporting and business policies around occupational injuries and diseases.
  1. SHE Inspections and Audits
  • Legal compliance audits to be conducted bi-annually, or as required.
  • Conduct interim internal audits.
  • Facilitate customer audits and landlord inspections.
  • Plan and manage all authority inspections and audits.
  • Any findings relating to non-conformances or non-compliances to be addressed and corrective action implemented timeously.
  • Ensure all statutory inspections and surveys are conducted and records maintained and audited against.
  1. Training
  • Develop and conduct SHE induction presentations for all new employees and contractors and keep centralised records of all such training that has occurred.
  • Conduct in-house SHE training sessions in line with procedures and policies.
  • Ensure personal protective equipment are issued to employees, records maintained, and training provided to all employees.
  • Manage, arrange and source quotations for all statutory training conducted by accredited external service providers.
  • Ensure training records are maintained, certificates are filed and tracked against expiry dates.
  • Prepare SHE toolbox talks and ensure this is conducted and recorded.
  1. Incidents and Accidents
  • Ensure all incidents and accidents are investigated, documented and reported to the relevant bodies timeously.
  • Ensure all administration around incidents and accidents progress reports, and resumption reports are completed timeously.
  • Track compensation claims.
  • Champion and close out corrective measures identified during the incident investigation
  • Set and maintain targets for all incident categories and track updates against this.
  1. Safety, Health and Environmental Administration
  • Maintain the Occupational Health and Safety records for employees and contractors
  • Maintain centralised records of MSDS, TDS, SDS, Letter of declarations of all chemicals and align procedures with the Hazard Chemical Agent Regulations
  1. Ad hoc duties
  • Render assistance to employees in terms of sourcing rehabilitation, providing information etc.
  • Assist HR with any investigations as and when required
  • Generate OHS reports as and when required

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Findings reduced year on year
  • Conducting Health and Safety meeting on a quarterly basis (ensuring minutes have been prepared and issues raised have been addressed.
  • Manage and maintain centralised documentation for training (Fire marshals, first aiders, safety reps
  • Documented progressive drives towards zero IOD’s
  • Bi-Weekly toolbox talks
  • 100% Safety Health and Environment inductions conducted for all new employees and contractors
  • Medical surveillance conducted on employees and contractors
  • Champion and facilitate special projects and awareness drives
  • Sustainability and waste reduction

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Qualifications:

  • National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (preferable)
  • Valid certification in the following courses: health and safety; first aid; fire marshal
  • Supervisory/Management Certification
  • Computer literate in MS Office

Experience:

  • 3-5 years relevant experience
  • Supervisory and management experience would be beneficial
