Job Purpose:

The Fleet Controller ensures the efficient and safe operation of the company’s fleet by managing daily tasks, overseeing maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining seamless communication between departments. This role is critical to optimizing fleet performance, minimizing downtime, and supporting the company’s logistics and distribution objectives.

 

Responsibilities

Fleet Management

  • Pre-trip checks: Ensure vehicle inspections are done and defects are addressed.
  • Fleet issue investigation: Identify and report fleet-related issues, taking corrective actions.
  • Optimize fleet usage: Ensure effective resource allocation and track performance through metrics like truck scorecards.

Fuel Management

  • Monitor fuel usage: Daily tracking and reporting of fuel consumption, addressing inefficiencies.
  • Investigate exceptions: Address any discrepancies or reductions in fuel efficiency.
  • Fleet Maintenance
  • Service coordination: Schedule vehicle maintenance and review job cards for prompt action.
  • Record keeping: Maintain accurate logs for services, repairs, and fuel usage.

Fleet Image

  • Maintain image: Ensure a positive fleet image by maintaining hygiene and cleanliness, including regular truck washing schedules.

Safety & Compliance

  • Safety checks: Ensure vehicles meet legal and safety standards.
  • Risk management: Address workplace risks and compliance-related tasks.
  • Service provider management: Ensure vendors comply with safety and regulatory requirements.

Fleet Availability

  • Meet delivery capacity: Ensure fleet availability aligns with delivery requirements.
  • Breakdown management: Set up and manage a breakdown system to minimize disruptions.

Cost Management

  • Cost control: Actively address defects and manage fleet costs within the budget.
  • Vendor selection: Compare quotes from service providers to ensure value-driven partnerships.

Reporting, Communication, and Team Management

  • Team management: Hold team meetings, manage attendance and performance.
  • Cross-department coordination: Ensure smooth collaboration with other departments and resolve fleet-related issues.
  • Reporting: Maintain and update KPI boards, provide regular performance and cost reports.
  • Health and safety: Ensure team adheres to health and safety standards.

Qualification & Experience

  • Grade 12 and Computer Literacy
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand Afrikaans & English
  • Previous experience in fleet or logistics management
  • Familiarity with safety and compliance standards and Familiarity and experience with vehicle tracking software
  • Relevant certifications in logistics or fleet management are advantageous
