Educational Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12) with a required pass in Maths and Science at higher grade
- Certificate in a Technical discipline or Production-related field (NQF 5)
- Diploma in a Technical discipline or Production-related field (NQF 6) – Required
- Trade Test (NQF 5) – Advantageous
- Certificate in First Line Management (FLMP) (NQF 5) – Advantageous
- 5 years of experience in Production/Maintenance operations in a Manufacturing environment, including 2 years at a Supervisory level
- Up to 3 years of experience working shifts – Advantageous
Production Operations and Control
- Achieve production targets by optimally using and applying resources and skills
- Ensure production operations are effective, efficient, and meet quality standards to achieve targets in line with timeframes/schedules
- Maintain open communication with relevant departments to ensure the highest standards of product quality
- Complete, process, and update all production records and related documentation
- Ensure effective and preventative maintenance is performed on all plant infrastructure and equipment to minimize potential failures and optimize production processes
- Coordinate first-line maintenance to prevent or limit plant/equipment downtime
- Raise job cards for maintenance work, ensuring work permits (e.g., hot work, vessel entry, elevated work) are included and escalated for approval
- Approve job cards after maintenance work is successfully completed
- Ensure that equipment and work areas are safe, maintained by operators, and that housekeeping principles are followed
- Operate within controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of the operations
- Identify and report risks or areas of concern to management within the department
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures to prevent wasteful and irregular expenditure
- Adhere to and enforce Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation to minimize risks, incidents, or damage
- Maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers to deliver the highest quality service
- Represent the company in meetings with relevant stakeholders
- Solve problems creatively and with integrity in alignment with the company’s core values
- Ensure all employees sign performance agreements
- Monitor and assess employee performance through quarterly appraisals
- Work with HR to identify performance objectives, development areas, and action plans where necessary
- Ensure ongoing training and development of employees
- Address employee relations matters promptly and fairly
- Contribute to the budget preparation process
- Promote and ensure the effective, efficient, and transparent use of financial and other resources
- Monitor and control expenditure to ensure spending stays within budgetary limits, reporting deviations to the direct Manager
- Identify opportunities for cost control and reduction
- Inspect and sign off on all safety equipment
- Counsel employees with high blood lead levels
- Ensure employees have the correct permits for specialized tasks (e.g., working at heights and confined spaces)
- Ensure proper sign-off for all tasks undertaken
- Ensure the team wears the correct PPE and uses it appropriately to minimize exposure to hazards
- Stay aware of equipment safety issues and high-speed machinery to ensure team and colleague safety
- Computer literacy (MS Office Suite, SAP, ERP, and other job-specific software systems)
- In-depth knowledge of plant production and maintenance practices, procedures, and processes
- Sound understanding of compliance with applicable legislation, safety, and manufacturing regulations
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
