The Material Controller I will be responsible for ensuring that construction materials are efficiently managed, accurately tracked, and effectively distributed to support project requirements. This role involves maintaining inventory accuracy, coordinating material deliveries, and supporting project teams in managing material needs.
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:
- Stock Control: Monitor and manage inventory levels of construction materials and supplies. Ensure that stock levels are maintained to meet project requirements and prevent shortages.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of material receipts, issues, and returns. Update inventory management systems and generate reports on inventory status and usage.
Material Handling:
- Storage: Oversee the proper storage of materials on-site or in the warehouse. Ensure that materials are stored securely and in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Distribution: Coordinate the timely delivery of materials to construction sites or other locations as needed. Ensure that materials are delivered in good condition and in accordance with project schedules.
Site Coordination:
- Communication: Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and other team members to understand material needs and delivery schedules. Provide updates and address any material-related issues or concerns.
- Support: Assist with the loading and unloading of materials and equipment. Help with the organization and preparation of materials for use on-site.
Safety and Compliance:
- Safety Procedures: Follow safety guidelines and protocols for handling and storing materials. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and ensure that safety procedures are adhered to.
- Regulations: Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and local regulations related to material management and site operations.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to material transactions, including delivery notes, inspection reports, and inventory logs.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports on inventory levels, material usage, and any issues encountered. Report discrepancies, damages, or losses to the supervisor and take corrective actions as needed.
Process Improvement:
- Efficiency: Identify opportunities for improving inventory management processes and material handling practices. Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
- Training: Provide guidance and support to other team members on material handling procedures and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12.
- Diploma or equivalent advantageous.
Experience:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in material control, inventory management, or a similar role, preferably in the construction industry.
- Basic knowledge of construction materials and equipment is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and experience with inventory management systems.
Attributes:
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with various teams.
Work Environment:
- Hours: Standard business hours. Potential overtime may be required based on project demands and logistics needs.
Key Performance Input and Key Performance Area:
- An annual performance review will be conducted with your line manager to assess overall output and effectiveness in your role. This review will provide an opportunity to measure your achievements against set goals, identify any areas of concern, and discuss potential improvements. Additionally, it will serve as a platform to evaluate any training needs or professional development opportunities that could enhance your performance and contribute to your growth within the company
