The Site Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing construction activities on-site, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, supervising construction workers, and resolving technical issues that arise during the construction process. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in construction engineering, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Tasks will include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Site Supervision: Oversee daily construction activities, including the coordination of labor, materials, and equipment. Ensure work is carried out according to project plans, specifications, and schedules.
- Quality Control: Monitor construction work to ensure it meets quality standards and project specifications. Conduct inspections and tests to verify the quality of workmanship and materials.
- Technical Support: Provide technical guidance and support to construction teams, addressing any issues related to design, materials, or construction methods. Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to ensure accurate implementation.
- Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve technical problems that arise on-site, including design discrepancies, material issues, and construction challenges.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure effective communication and coordination on site. Address any issues or changes to project scope in a timely manner.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit regular progress reports to project managers, highlighting key milestones, challenges, and any deviations from the project plan.
- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure that all construction activities comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards. Obtain necessary permits and approvals for construction work.
- Safety Management: Implement and enforce safety procedures on-site, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols. Conduct safety briefings and inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of construction activities, including labor hours, material usage, and progress. Document any changes to project plans and manage project documentation.
- Administrative Tasks: Assist with the preparation of project budgets, schedules, and resource plans. Monitor project expenses and ensure that expenditures are within budget.
- Grade 12.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a Site Engineer in the construction industry, with a proven track record of successfully managing construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment, as well as local building codes and regulations.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and lead construction teams.
- Basic proficiency in Portuguese. Knowledge of additional local languages is a place
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as bending and standing for extended period
- Hours: Standard business hours. Potential overtime may be required based on project demands and logistics needs
- An annual performance review will be conducted with your line manager to assess overall output and effectiveness in your role. This review will provide an opportunity to measure your achievements against set goals, identify any areas of concern, and discuss potential improvements. Additionally, it will serve as a platform to evaluate any training needs or professional development opportunities that could enhance your performance and contribute to your growth within the company.
