Job Description:

CA Mining has been retained to assist with the recruitment of our clients Project Development Team for their Gold Project. Their Gold Project is a sedimentary-hosted, structurally controlled gold deposit that fits the broad orogenic lode gold model and is amenable to conventional open-pit gold mining and carbon-in-leach metallurgical processing.

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Project Quality Specialist to join their Gold Project, whose purpose is to ensure that all Project site personnel adhere to the Project’s defined quality standards and legislative requirements while also ensuring construction output and SHE compliance, while achieving schedule and budget targets.

 

Responsibilities:

Quality Responsibilities

    • Maintain and administer the QMS in line with ISO/IATF/FDA standards; develop and control SOPs, quality records, and documentation.
    • Conduct audits, verify compliance with specifications, and oversee QA/QC during construction to ensure correct design implementation.
    • Ensure contractors, consultants, and supplied documentation meet the client’s standards and quality responsibilities.
    • Identify project quality issues/risks, apply preventative measures, and ensure safe, compliant installation and operation of equipment.
    • Develop and implement strategies to deliver quality on time and within budget across all construction works.
    • Coordinate handover to commissioning/operations teams, including Site Data Books, and assist with quality queries during commissioning and ramp-up.

 

Functional Role

    • Establish, review, and approve quality structures, responsibilities, and performance targets for EPCM, consultants, and contractors to ensure alignment and compliance.
    • Collaborate with EPCM and contractors to implement quality control processes meeting operational expectations, regulations, and certifications.
    • Propose strategies to improve construction quality, ergonomics, and reduce environmental impacts (waste, emissions, energy, water).
    • Recruit, train, and evaluate OPT quality personnel; review EPCM/contractor performance and provide feedback to strengthen skills and motivation.
    • Host internal/external audits, ensure audit readiness, and resolve complex quality issues using analytical and detail-oriented skills.
    • Collect and analyze quality data to track performance, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records; manage non-conformances and corrective actions.

 

Approval and management of quality budgets, cost control as well as earned value management and control

    • Approve and manage quality budgets, cost control, and earned value; monitor OPT quality team performance against objectives, budgets, and schedules.
    • Ensure contractors achieve quality, commissioning, budget, and schedule targets; support corrective actions where needed.
    • Report quality performance to executive management and assist the operations team with readiness planning, cost forecasts, and sustaining capital budgets post-commissioning.

 

People Management and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Direct and supervise multiple on-site teams, including OPT, EPCM, contractors, and consultants, ensuring alignment of quality efforts across all parties.
    • Plan, allocate, and optimize quality resources, while developing and motivating personnel to achieve consistent Project quality output.
    • Set, monitor, and manage performance standards for OPT and subcontracted quality teams, implementing corrective actions as needed.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including operational readiness teams, to align quality objectives with operational goals and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor adherence to project quality scopes, review contractual changes, and respond to disputes to maintain quality standards and compliance.

 

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • Proven work experience as an Owner’s Team Quality Specialist or similar role in a project environment.
    • Proven experience (typically 2-5 years) in a quality assurance or quality control role and at least 10 years’ experience on a mine and process/ metallurgical plant.
    • Relevant engineering qualification. Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree would be preferable.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or similar certification from ASQ or other recognized body.
    • Light vehicle driver’s license; Medical clearance to work on construction sites; Namibian Work Permit (The client will assist to obtain) or Namibian Citizenship.
    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
    • Experience with MS Office, Sharefile, Oracle Aconex, generic ERP systems, and experience with following software, e.g., SAP QM, Pronto, EtQ Reliance, MasterControl, would be advantageous.
    • Technical Expertise & Problem-Solving: Strong knowledge across engineering, construction, and project management disciplines, with meticulous attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
    • Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated leadership and management skills, ability to develop teams, work effectively across departments, and maintain strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Integrity, Compliance & Safety: Commitment to quality standards, regulatory compliance, safety, environmental awareness, and adaptability in dynamic project environments.
