Contract: Minimum 12 month Renewable
A tropical holiday destination in the Caribbean is looking for a Lead Boat Captain & Watersports Instructor to oversee the safe operation of the boat fleet and watersports program while creating unforgettable guest experiences both on and off the water. This role combines technical expertise, guest engagement, and operational leadership, ensuring boats are well-maintained, transfers and logistics run smoothly, and watersports activities are delivered to the highest safety and hospitality standards. The position also supports hosting, emergency response, hurricane preparation, and charitable initiatives, making it a dynamic and purpose-driven opportunity
Minimum Requirements:
STCW certification and a valid captain’s license (required).
Proven powerboat handling with fleet maintenance, inspections/licensing, and marine safety compliance.
Watersports instruction experience (e.g., snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking) and strong guest-facing hospitality.
Ability to train/mentor team members in safe boat use, watersports protocols, and guest hosting standards.
High safety awareness; emergency-response readiness; comfortable staying on-island as needed.
Physically fit, wellness-oriented, and able to lead movement/fitness activities.
Organized, detail-driven, and able to follow budget and purchase-order processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Boat operations & safety: Captain boats for excursions, transfers, and special trips; keep vessels clean, fueled, presentable; enforce maintenance schedules and cost-effective repairs; ensure all safety gear is present/checked; complete annual inspections/licensing; maintain docks; track boat usage/location; ensure an emergency boat is always available.
Guest & team logistics: Coordinate guest transfers (boat/helicopter/taxi) and luggage handling end-to-end; manage team movements between locations; receive procured items arriving by sea; work closely with maritime partners; manage taxi bookings/invoices
Watersports & activities: Facilitate/instruct ocean adventures and watersports; present activities professionally; adhere to safety protocols; store/secure equipment daily; keep gym equipment serviceable; conduct guest counts; ensure all safety equipment is available and operational
Shared watersports/retail space: Keep the shared space clean, stocked, inventoried, and visually appealing; assist guests with purchases; communicate how purchases support charitable initiatives.
Training & collaboration: Train qualified staff on fleet operation and local waters; mentor team members in safety and guest standards; collaborate across departments to deliver seamless guest experiences.
Hosting & events: Take part in hosting schedules; assist with activity/dining setups and bar/cooler prep; attend daily meetings and complete clear handovers; secure locations at shift end.
Vehicles & on-island support: Oversee vehicle cleaning/maintenance schedules; assist with guest transport around the property; ensure guest vehicles are clean, fueled, and positioned for arrivals.
Emergency & HSE: Serve on the emergency response team; respond to fire and other incidents; support hurricane preparation and pack-down procedures; uphold confidentiality and all island policies/standards
Administration & conduct: Keep operational logs up to date; follow budget/PO guidelines; attend required meetings; support charitable/community activities (e.g., swimming lessons); undertake reasonable projects as assigned.
