Job Description:

Our client, a well-established company in the mining industry, is seeking an R&D Manager in Hydrometallurgy. This role will focus on developing and optimizing hydrometallurgical processes for the extraction, separation, and purification of strategic and precious metals. It offers a balance of applied research and industrial support, driving innovative and sustainable solutions for the valorization of ores, residues, and recycling streams.

Responsibilities:  

    • Develop and optimize processing flowsheets (leaching, purification, solvent extraction, electrolysis, and other separation/purification methods).
    • Design and lead R&D programs aligned with industry best practices.
    • Conduct experimental work in leaching, solvent extraction, precipitation, and electrolysis.
    • Evaluate and implement alternatives to conventional reagents (e.g., bioleaching, environmentally friendly lixiviants, low-energy processes).
    • Provide technical support to industrial operations to enhance process performance, including yields, reagent efficiency, and product quality.
    • Oversee scale-up activities across project stages, from laboratory to pilot and full industrial implementation.
    • Stay current with scientific advances in hydrometallurgy of critical and strategic metals (Ni, Co, Cu, REE, Li, etc.) and emerging technologies.
    • Promote a collaborative and innovative environment that encourages creativity and knowledge sharing.
    • Manage R&D projects with responsibility for reporting, documentation, and preparation of technical deliverables.

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • Degree in Engineering or a PhD in Hydrometallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, or Industrial Chemistry, with 5–10 years of relevant experience.
    • Demonstrated expertise in the design and optimization of hydrometallurgical processes for ores and/or secondary streams.
    • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and analytical techniques (e.g., ICP, AAS, XRD, etc.).
    • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with industrial teams and prepare clear, well-structured protocols.
