Director of Power Plants Operations (Energy /Project Management / IPP / Thermal / HFO)

Job Description:

Our client, who has been well established in the Independent Power Producer (IPP) industry, is looking for a Director of Power Plant Operations to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of its power generation assets. The role is responsible for maximizing plant availability and contractual performance while enforcing strong operational discipline across multiple sites. The Director will provide strategic and hands-on leadership over plant operations and maintenance, drive performance improvement initiatives, ensure compliance with HSE, OEM, and regulatory requirements, and act as the single point of accountability for operational performance across the portfolio.

Responsibilities:  

• Provide end-to-end operational and maintenance leadership across a geographically dispersed portfolio of power plants
• Drive achievement of plant availability, efficiency, and operating cost performance targets
• Lead, mentor, and structure Plant Managers and site-based O&M teams to ensure consistent operational standards
• Ensure strict adherence to HSE policies, OEM guidelines, and all applicable regulatory requirements
• Oversee planned and unplanned outage management, including root cause analysis and performance recovery initiatives
• Interface and collaborate with fuel suppliers, finance teams, OEMs, EPC contractors, and lenders as required
• Deliver concise, insight-driven operational reports to Executive Management to support informed decision-making

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Seasoned power generation leader with extensive experience in HFO-fired thermal power plants
• Proven track record in overseeing multi-site operations and geographically dispersed power generation assets
• Effective leader with strong discipline and the ability to manage complex operational challenges and crisis situations
• Experienced in operating within emerging and developing market environments
• Fully fluent in both French and English
