Job Description:

Our client, a major mining operation, is seeking an experienced Chief Mine Surveyor to lead and coordinate all survey functions. The successful candidate will take full accountability for survey calculations, production reconciliation, stockpile reporting, compliance reporting, and team leadership. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate production measurement, contractor reconciliation within tolerance, government compliance reporting, and mine-wide survey integrity.

Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate all functions of the Mining Survey section, taking responsibility for all survey calculations and results.
    • Plan and allocate survey work and instruct subordinates on execution priorities.
    • Liaise with mining, technical and operational departments to ensure survey requirements are met.
    • Monitor all survey activities and ensure adherence to standards, procedures and safety regulations.
    • Establish final volumes of work delivered and reconcile original versus completed work data.
    • Conduct comparative analysis using computerised programmes to validate production and costing figures.
    • Ensure production reconciliation with contractors within a 5% tolerance.
    • Submit accurate weekly stockpile balances to the Head of Department.
    • Ensure zero error in weekly and monthly production reporting.
    • Provide daily updates of topographical as-built pit surveys.
    • Set annual budgets for the survey function aligned to the mine business plan.
    • Ensure statutory government plans are updated and submitted in accordance with regulations.
    • Train, mentor and coach survey team members to meet operational requirements.
    • Compile daily and month-end management reports and provide specialist technical input to management.
    • Promote cross-functional collaboration and optimise productivity across disciplines.

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • Degree in Geomatics or Mine Surveying.
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience within a mining survey department.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience managing survey teams.
    • Certified Drone Pilot qualification.
    • Proficiency in Point Studio, Surpac or QGIS.
    • Strong skills in drone operation and drone data processing.
    • Ability to use standard mining survey equipment.
    • Experience in mining and general earthworks will be advantageous.
