Reporting to: Senior Refrigeration Technician / Maintenance Manager

Job Purpose

To support the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of refrigeration systems within a cold storage environment, ensuring optimal temperature control, compliance with safety standards, and minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems and equipment
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on cold storage units, compressors, condensers, and evaporators
• Monitor temperature systems and report any irregularities or faults
• Support troubleshooting and fault-finding on refrigeration and electrical systems
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and job reports
• Assist with emergency breakdowns and after-hours support when required
• Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 essential
• Relevant technical qualifications in Refrigeration
• Basic knowledge of refrigeration systems (ammonia and / or Freon systems advantageous)
• 1 – 3 years’ experience
• in a refrigeration or maintenance environment (preferably cold storage)
• Basic electrical and mechanical knowledge
• Valid drivers license and own reliable vehicle

Working conditions

• Exposure to cold storage temperatures
• Physically demanding work at times
• Overtime and standby duties may be required

Advantageous experience

• Experience in ammonia refrigeration systems
• Exposure to PLC systems or automated controls
• Experience in food-grade or FMCG cold storage facilities
