Job Description:

Our client is seeking an Instrumentation Technician to close the in-house instrumentation skills gap identified as a critical RP 2.0 commissioning risk. Provide permanent, on-site DCS/PLC and field instrumentation capability — eliminating vendor dependency for control loop faults and enabling the commissioning team to resolve instrumentation issues in-house without delay. Our client currently has no in-house instrumentation capability. Any DCS/PLC or field instrument fault requires a vendor call-out, creating delays that are unacceptable during commissioning. This is a documented single-point-of-failure risk. The role must be recruited, inducted, and competent before RP 2.0 commissioning begins — there is no contingency for a vacancy at commissioning date. This role is currently a single-point-of-failure risk at site. Recruitment must be prioritized immediately

Responsibilities:

    • Control loops, transmitters, control valves, and analyzer failures diagnosed and resolved in-house — no vendor call-out for routine faults.
    • Process control documentation owned, current, and accessible: loop diagrams, cause-and-effect matrices, instrument index, calibration records.
    • Full understanding of each circuit's control philosophy gained through structured training before commissioning.
    • DCS/PLC fault diagnosis and resolution capability demonstrated in-house before commissioning commences
    • Calibration programmer established: all field instruments on a traceable calibration schedule.
    • Instrumentation handover documentation complete: all systems documented to a standard that a qualified replacement can pick up without institutional knowledge.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

    • Qualified instrumentation technician (trade or degree) with hands-on industrial DCS/PLC experience.
    • Field instrumentation experience: transmitters, control valves, actuators, level and flow instruments.
    • Analyzer experience (elemental, process) advantageous; wet commissioning environment preferred.
    • Able to produce and maintain process control documentation: loop diagrams, C&E matrices, instrument index.
    • Demonstrates learning agility — must absorb a new plant's control philosophy rapidly through structured training.
    • Available to commence well in advance of RP 2.0 commissioning — urgency is non-negotiable.
    • Must be recruited and fully operational before RP 2.0 commissioning as a hard dependency; must be capable of vendor-independent fault diagnosis and not function as a coordination-only role reliant on vendor callouts.
    • Must maintain live, site-controlled documentation (not personal working files) and work in an embedded capacity alongside commissioning leads throughout RP 2.0 commissioning.

Benefits and Contractual information:

    • Reports To: Maintenance Engineer / RP 2.0 Commissioning Lead
    • Work Cycle: Residential or standard rotation
