Job Description:
Our client with mining operations in Southeast Africa is seeking a Metallurgical Accountant / Reconciliation Specialist to provide governance, technical leadership, and assurance over metal accounting and reconciliation across the processing plant. The role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of metal balances, recoveries, and inventories, supporting operational decision‑making, gold dispatch, financial reporting, and statutory compliance, while also developing local capability through mentoring and skills transfer.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metal balances across all processing streams.
- Reconcile mine production, plant performance, laboratory results, and dispatch data, investigating and resolving variances.
- Govern sampling protocols, chain of custody, and sample preparation handovers to ensure data reliability.
- Oversee in‑process inventory measurements, including gold‑in‑circuit, stockpiles, and plant lock‑up.
- Maintain auditable metal accounting and reconciliation records aligned with industry best practice.
- Apply data integrity principles to all metal accounting, reporting, and reconciliation activities.
- Produce timely metal accounting reports, KPI dashboards, and inputs for financial reporting.
- Support metallurgical surveys, plant audits, and loss investigations.
- Coordinate with Metallurgy, Laboratory, Production, Finance, and Supply Chain teams.
- Supervise and develop sampling and data technicians through training and mentoring.
- Support internal and external audits and maintain statutory and compliance requirements.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements to metal accounting systems and controls.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Extractive Metallurgy, or related Engineering discipline.
- Proven experience in metal accounting and reconciliation within a gold processing (CIL/CIP) operation.
- Strong practical understanding of mass‑balance principles and metal accounting methodologies.
- Working knowledge of the AMIRA P754 Code of Practice or equivalent metal accounting standards.
- Demonstrated competence in sampling theory, inventory measurement, and weighing systems.
- Experience producing auditable metal accounting reports for operational and financial use.
- High attention to detail with a strong data integrity, ethics, and compliance mindset.
- Strong analytical, variance investigation, and cross‑functional communication skills.
