Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Project Director to lead and integrate all project development activities from DFS completion (pending timing of commencement) through early works, EPCM appointment, and execution readiness — ensuring the project is investment ready, permit ready, and executable before entering construction.

The Project Director owns the quality of the DFS, the choice and control of the EPCM and construction contractors, the pace and discipline of early works, and the professional credibility of the project with the Board, regulators, and future financiers.

The Company is advancing a gold development project  from advanced studies into full project development and execution readiness. With DFS completion targeted for early H2 2026, a 22–24-month development phase, and first gold planned for Q1 2029, the Project Director will play a critical role in shaping DFS credibility, project execution, permitting certainty, capital confidence, and readiness for Final Investment Decision (FID).

This is a project defining role. The quality of leadership in this position will materially determine whether the project achieves DFS credibility, secures funding with confidence, and delivers first gold in Q1 2029.

 

Responsibilities:

• Deliver DFS by early H2 2026 with executable strategy, realistic schedule, defensible capital estimate, and robust risk profile
• Integrate mining, processing, infrastructure, TSF, power, water, and logistics into a cohesive plan
• Ensure clear, well-justified design, execution, and cost decisions
• Lead disciplined EPCM selection with clear scope, performance metrics, and governance
• Establish strong reporting structures and clear accountability across Owner, EPCM, and consultants
• Define and execute early works packages to reduce schedule, logistics, and permitting risks
• Maintain strict change and commitment control
• Secure key permits and approvals or ensure clear pathways to obtain them
• Build effective stakeholder and regulatory relationships while embedding ESG commitments
• Implement integrated project controls across cost, schedule, and risk
• Enforce change control with executive visibility and deliver FID-ready execution plan
• Build and lead a lean, experienced project development team
• Manage smooth transition from development into construction and operations

 

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• 15+ years of experience in large-scale mining project development and delivery, with demonstrated leadership of gold projects through DFS and execution phases.
• Proven ability to manage and govern EPCM contractors while maintaining Owner-side project oversight and accountability.
• Strong expertise in capital management, project scheduling, risk management, and overall project controls.
• Executive-level judgement, leadership presence, and experience operating within Africa or other emerging jurisdictions preferred.
• Accountable for full DFS ownership, ensuring the study is realistic, executable, defensible, and aligned with project delivery rather than consultant-led outcomes.
• Govern and control EPCM contractors as the Owner’s representative, while ensuring early works reduce project risk without creating scope creep or uncontrolled commitments.
• Integrate permitting, ESG, and approvals directly into project execution sequencing to maintain delivery readiness and avoid delays.
• Maintain strict capital discipline and corporate-level decision-making to align DFS assumptions, execution strategy, and delivery targets, ensuring first gold by Q1 2029 remains a committed outcome
