Position Overview

A prestigious and dynamic legal firm based in Menlyn is seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Treasury, Cash & Bank Supervisor to join their finance team immediately. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of the firm’s treasury operations, business, and trust banking accounts.

The successful candidate will oversee daily cash management, bank reconciliations, and transactional processing while providing strong leadership and guidance to a dedicated transactional team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BCom degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related financial qualification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of solid experience in a corporate treasury, banking, or cash management role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity (essential).
  • Prior experience working within a Legal Firm or professional services environment is highly advantageous (understanding of Trust vs. Business accounting is a major plus).
  • Advanced proficiency in electronic banking platforms (e.g., Corporate Banking interfaces for Standard Bank, Nedbank, FNB, or ABSA).
  • Strong working knowledge of legal accounting software (e.g., AJS, GhostConvey, Lexis /Practice Manager) or major ERP systems is a distinct advantage.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Ability to motivate a team, handle pressure calmly, and communicate effectively across all levels of the firm.
  • A proactive problem-solver who takes ownership of deadlines and ensures absolute accuracy.
  • High ethical standards, essential for managing sensitive trust and corporate funds.

 

Supervisory & Team Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and manage the daily outputs of the cash, bank, and transactional clerks.
  • Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure strict adherence to the firm’s financial internal controls.
  • Foster a high-performance, high-accuracy environment within the finance department.

 

Treasury & Cash Management

  • Monitor and manage daily cash liquidity, cash flow forecasting, and daily bank balances (both Business and Trust accounts).
  • Oversee and authorize electronic funds transfers (EFTs) and payments in line with the firm's delegation of authority.
  • Manage relationships with banking institutions and resolve complex transactional queries efficiently.

 

Bank Reconciliations & Reporting

  • Ensure all bank accounts (including foreign currency or specialized investment accounts, if applicable) are reconciled daily and monthly.
  • Review and approve complex bank reconciliations prepared by the team, identifying and resolving reconciling items swiftly.
  • Prepare monthly treasury reports, cash flow analysis, and variance reports for management review.

 

Compliance & Legal Practice Regulations

  • Ensure all trust banking transactions strictly comply with the Legal Practice Act (LPA) and Legal Practice Council (LPC) rules.
  • Maintain accurate audit trails and assist internal/external auditors during financial and statutory audits.
