Job Summary – Manages, plans, controls and directs activities of the business development division. Formulate and implement overall business development strategy in line with the company’s sales strategy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Taking a lead role in defining the annual sales budget and exceeding the defined targets in line with the company’s strategy, focusing on specific sales verticals as well as the company’s segments within South Africa.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new customers/contacts in order to give the company a competitive advantage.
  • Optimize bookings for the company, predominantly in Southern Africa and various countries in Southern Africa.
  • Participate in developing and optimizing overall bid strategies and Sales & Marketing strategies.
  • Actively promotes the image and profile of the company in a professional manner.
  • Ensure constant visibly of the company via regular presentation of the company products and technologies at appropriate & current seminars & conferences.
  • Continuous improvement of personal knowledge for self & team on all products and technologies using assistance of internal personnel or approved external sources.
  • Regular feedback to the Management team, Regional BD Team and CEO on progress within various business segments.
  • Lead, direct and focus teams within Business Development, Marketing and Communications.
  • Ensure all business lines/activities are promoted to all clients thereby enhancing footprint & competency of the company.

Duties:

  • Formulates the Division’s strategy in alignment with the company’s strategic goals and translates these into agree goals for the Employees of the Division.
  • Provides leadership and support to the Division and ensures awareness and commitment to company’s vision and strategy.
  • Manage and lead the Division with regards to all commercial and contractual matters.
  • Assist with the management of all activities associated with the conversion of leads/sales into contracts.
  • Obtains information and gathers information of future projects.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with clients and partners in a professional manner.
  • Travel within reason to all areas of the company, staying over the extended periods as necessary.
  • Entertain prospective or existing customer within reason to promote sales/business growth according to the strategies.
  • Ensures the coordination of plant surveys, manage Employee’s compilation of necessary data to develop positive enquiry information.
  • Guide other departments when necessary in the promotion of other products or services/O&M’s.
  • Attend sales meetings, budget meetings, sales seminars as required to improve Employee’s and personal status.
  • Responsible for the presentation of Tenders to the customer, with support from the back-office teams.
  • Create a win, win situation with regard to company and client.
  • Manage the daily & weekly reports as requested as well as trip reports from extended visits.
  • Obtain information about activities of similar organizations and report to management.
  • Perform any other duties required by the Chief Executive Officer.

Required Competence and/or Qualifications:

  • Preferably a B Degree in Engineering/ alternatively Master’s in business administration/BCom Sales and Marketing Degree or assessed equivalent.
  • 10 – 15 year’s Business Development/Sales experience in the industrial Chemicals and Water Treatment Industry/Services/Projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of Water/Wastewater Industry and a proven track record.
  • Fully computer literate.
  • Sound understanding of fundamental contractual issues, with business and commercial skills. Sound financial and Business acumen.
  • Strong financial acumen with some financial training on P&L’s and Project Profitability assessments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to interact effectively at all levels.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Persuasive, confident and assertive.
  • Proven track record of having built and maintained successful client relationships/high level contacts in all arenas within Southern Africa in relevant field.
  • Dynamic self-starter who has a passion for Business Development and Marketing.
  • Self – reliant and persistent.
